Acuity For Second and Third Class Medical certification, you have 20/40 acuity in each eye separately in near and far vision testing. Second Class exams also require 20 / 40 or better at intermediate distance (32 inches). These tests are all with, or without, glasses or contact lens.
One Eye (Monocular Vision) occurs when the best corrected vision in the worst eye is 20 / 200 or worse. Certification is possible.
Color Blindness Certification requires the "ability to perceive those colors necessary for safe performance of airman duties." The rules changed a few years ago, and the old SODA procedure is no longer used for new applicants (but an existing SODA continues to be valid). The new policy is outlined here. Here is a flowchart for the testing procedure if you fail the standard color vision test.
