Cancer or Blood Conditions

The Medical Certification Division is moving rapidly to simplify medicals for Airmen who have had cancer. For a few conditions, AMEs are now able to directly issue Medical certification (CACI), and many others now allow AMEs to issue medicals for renewals after a first time pass through the AMCD(AASI). At this time, a few cancers will still need review by AMCD for each renewal(SI). In some circumstances, an AME can "work the system" to expedite approval for renewals of SI.

CACI Cancers (Conditions AME Can Issue)

Prostate Cancer (if no invasion through capsule, otherwise AASI), Renal Cancer (certain conditions, otherwise AASI), and testicular cancer (when treatment complete and back to full activities). Other Genito-urinary cancers (except bladder) where treatment completed more than five years ago and no spread.

AASI Cancers (AME Assisted Special Issuances, FAA Review then AME Renewals)

Bladder, Breast, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Colon, Lymphoma, Melanoma, Prostate, Renal, and Testicular Cancer. If you can provide a status letter from your oncologist plus your current lab and imaging reports, we can often expedite your application.

Melanoma

Maybe AME issue, or FAA Decision depending on pathology report from biopsy or surgery(depth of invasion and evidence of spread).

Other Malignancies

Require FAA decision. This will be facilitated by submitting all pertinent medical records, operative/pathology reports, current oncological status report, including tumor markers, and any other testing deemed necessary. Contact us to discuss the situation.
