Dr Rampil is an Emeritus Professor of Anesthesiology and Neurological Surgery. He attended medical school at Columbia University and served his internship, residency, and fellowships at the University of California at San Francisco, going on to serve as faculty there. Subsequently he became the Director of Research for Anesthesia at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
During his career, Dr Rampil performed over 25,000 anesthetics and trained over 300 resident physicians.Dr Rampil authored over 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles and served as an Editorial Board member of four major medical journals. He invented some of the technologies used worldwide to monitor the brain during surgery, discovered some of the basic mechanisms of how anesthetics work, and was involved in the development of new anesthetic drugs. He co-edited a medical textbook and wrote chapters for almost 30 others. He has been an invited Lecturer on five Continents.
Dr Rampil earned his original Pilot Certificate in 1977 and was first designated as an FAA Airman Medical Examiner in 2003. He is a member of EAA and AOPA.
